Steps for Enrolling in the East Side Adult Education High School Diploma Program

Step 1: Computer Placement Test

  • Schedule a two-hour computer placement test at Independence Adult Center.
  • The test includes Math and English assessments.
  • Morning and evening appointments are available for flexibility.

Step 2: Schedule a Counseling Appointment

  • After completing the placement test, schedule a counseling appointment via the online calendar. The link to the calendar will be provided after the placement test.
  • Counseling appointments are available via phone or in person.
  • The counselor will review your test results and determine your academic path.

Step 3: Meet with a Counselor and Plan Your Class Schedule

  • If you have previously attended high school, you must provide official transcripts to determine transferable credits.
  • During your counseling appointment, your class schedule will be determined.
  • The counselor will create a customized education plan based on your test results and transferred credits.
  • Choose between in-person, hybrid, or online class options (if available).

Step 4: Begin Classes and Track Progress

  • Attend classes regularly and complete assignments.
  • Utilize school resources such as tutoring or career counseling for support.
  • Maintain communication with instructors and counselors to stay on track.

Step 5: Complete Coursework and Graduate

  • Once all required courses are completed, apply for graduation.
  • Participate in the school’s graduation ceremony and receive your High School Diploma!
